A total of 183M tonnes of cargo was handled by the port in 2007,
a growth of 9% compared with the year before.
The main engine of this growth is general cargo, with a sharp rise in container volumes
At 16%, this increased twice as fast as the overall freight volume,
which was 95M tonnes in 8M teu. The Deurganck dock, which was opened in july 2005,
was responsible for 1,5M teu of this - an increase of 89% on 2006.
40% of trade through the port consists of bulk goods such as coal, ore, fertilizer and grains.
