OPERATION INSTRUCTION FOR SEMI‐AUTOMATIC SPREADERS: MK‐20 & MK‐40.

1) CONNECTION OF SPREADER TO CRANE:

Connection of spreader to crane
  • Connect lifting wires (2 x 2 legs) to the crane hook.
    The legs should not be twisted.
  • Connect wire (with main spring) of shifting gear to
    crane hook (only for semi‐automatic use).

► The spreader can be lifted.

2) PICK UP CONTAINER:

Pick up container

  • Position spreader on top of container. Using the guidance plates.
  • When all guidance plates (3) are in contact with the container, the spreader is correctly positioned.
  • Lowering the spreader on top of the container will lock the twistlocks.
  • Sign shows “locked” to the crane driver.

► The container can be lifted.

  • All 4 twistlocks should be locked, container weight should never exceed SWL of spreader.
  • Guidance plates can only be used for standard ISO‐containers (no extra long or extra wide containers).

3) DISCHARGE CONTAINER:

Discharge container
  • When container is placed on its position, the crane hook is to be lowered to slacken the wire of the shifting gear.
  • When sufficiently lowered, the sheave will be at the lowest possible position (position 2).
  • Lifting the wires again will unlock the twistlocks.
  • Sign shows “unlocked” to the crane driver.


► Spreader can be lifted.

1) MANUAL OPERATION:

Manual operation

  • Insert handle in spreader end.
  • To lock, turn handle.
  • Sign shows lock on top, container can be lifted.
  • To unlock: turn handle to the other side.
  • Sign shows unlocked on top, spreader can be lifted without the container.

2) MAINTENANCE & REPAIR:

Maintenance and repair
  • Condition of load bearing components (wires, lifting eyes, frame, twistlocks) should be checked before every use.
    ► Permanent deformation is not allowed.
    ► Wire ropes to be inspected in accordance with EN‐13414.
  • Moving parts (twistlocks, locking pins, operating rods) are to be kept free from debris and greased regularly.
  • Repair should be done by competent person.
  • Spares are available on request.

3) PROBLEM SOLVING:

— Twistlocks don’t fit all 4 in ISO‐holes.

  • Frame is deformed.
  • Container is deformed.
  • ISO‐holes are damaged/filled with debris.


— Twistlocks cannot be locked.

  • Main spring is extended.
  • Movement of locking pins is prevented.
  • Movement of operation rods is prevented.
