Offshore Container Lifting Spreaders

CONTECH® container spreaders are designed for the safe lifting and handling of ISO containers, hatch covers and other heavy containerized loads.
Our range includes standard and heavy-duty 20 ft spreaders for use in ports, terminals, shipyards, industrial facilities and offshore operations. The latest MK-20/33, MK-20/50 and MK-20/60 heavy-duty models provide lifting capacities from 33 to 60 tonnes, each optimized for different heavy-lifting applications. The MK-20 series is designed, manufactured and tested in accordance with RINA Rules for Loading and Unloading Arrangements, Chapter 12 “Loose Gear”, including provisions for offshore and transhipping operations and the applicable Dynamic Amplification Factor (DAF). Heavy-Duty Container Spreaders for Offshore, Harbour and BESS Applications, Heavy containers, hatch covers, BESS modules and special containerized loads can considerably exceed the lifting weights normally associated with standard ISO containers.

The CONTECH® MK-20 range provides dedicated heavy-duty lifting solutions for these applications.
The three models share the same 20 ft spreader concept while offering different lifting capacities and application focuses.

MK-20/33 – 33 t Heavy-Duty Container Spreader

Offshore Container Lifting.

Offshore lifting introduces dynamic loads that differ from normal harbour lifting conditions. For this reason, the offshore capacity of a spreader cannot simply be assumed to be identical to its harbour lifting capacity.

The MK-20/33, MK-20/50 and MK-20/60 are designed and tested in accordance with the applicable RINA requirements for Special Lifting Items and Design Load for Offshore and Transhipping Operations. Design calculations include the applicable Dynamic Amplification Factor.
This provides a clearly defined basis for selecting the appropriate spreader according to the lifting conditions and required load.

Selecting the Right Container Spreader
The CONTECH® range covers different heavy-lifting requirements:
• MK-20/33 – 33 t: heavy-duty ISO container and containerized cargo handling
• MK-20/50 – 50 t: particularly suited to vessel hatch cover lifting, as well as heavy containers and special loads
• MK-20/60 – 60 t: specifically developed for BESS containers and heavy battery modules

MK-20/50 – 50 t Container & Hatch Cover Spreader

For offshore applications, the permissible WLL depends on the lifting conditions and the applicable Dynamic Amplification Factor (DAF).

The MK-20/33 is a heavy-duty 20 ft container spreader with a harbour WLL of 33 tonnes. It is intended for lifting ISO containers and other containerized loads requiring greater capacity than conventional container handling equipment. The spreader is also designed for offshore and transhipping operations, with the allowable offshore WLL determined according to the applicable Dynamic Amplification Factor.
The MK-20/50 was originally developed for the lifting and handling of vessel hatch covers and is ideally suited to this application thanks to its 50-tonne harbour WLL.
In addition to hatch cover handling, the spreader can be used for lifting heavy 20 ft containers and other special containerized loads. The design also covers offshore and transhipping operations, making the MK-20/50 a versatile solution for shipboard, harbour and offshore lifting applications.
The approved design specifies a harbour WLL of 50 tonnes, with offshore WLL dependent on the applicable Dynamic Amplification Factor.

‍

MK-20/60 – 60 t BESS Container Spreader

The MK-20/60 was specifically developed for lifting heavy Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) containers and modules.
BESS containers and battery modules can reach weights well beyond those normally encountered with standard freight containers, requiring lifting equipment specifically designed for these higher loads. With a harbour WLL of 60 tonnes, the MK-20/60 provides a dedicated heavy-lifting solution for these applications.
The MK-20/60 is also designed for offshore and transhipping operations, with the permissible offshore WLL determined according to the applicable Dynamic Amplification Factor.

Container Spreaders for BESS Modules

The increasing use of containerized Battery Energy Storage Systems creates new requirements for lifting and handling equipment. The high weight of battery modules can require significantly higher lifting capacity than normally encountered with standard freight containers.
The CONTECH® MK-20/60 BESS spreader was developed specifically for this type of heavy container handling. Its 60-tonne harbour WLL makes it suitable for handling heavy 20 ft BESS containers and other high-weight containerized equipment.
For projects involving offshore or transhipping operations, the MK-20/60 design also takes the applicable Dynamic Amplification Factor into consideration.

Container Spreader Engineering

In addition to standard configurations, Container Technics can support container lifting applications where load, operating conditions or cargo characteristics require a more specialized solution. Selection of the appropriate spreader should take into account the load weight, container dimensions, lifting arrangement and whether lifting takes place under harbour or offshore conditions.

Contact Container Technics with the details of your lifting application to determine the most suitable spreader configuration.
